In my writings I have mostly shied away from politics. I must make an exception here.
Those of us in the oil and gas space know what the Railroad Commission does. Most voters do not. Bo French defeated incumbent Jim Wright in the Republican primary by one percent. Jim Wright was qualified by his experience to be a commissioner. He was endorsed by Governor Abbott in the Republican primary, who warned voters that French “doesn’t know anything about oil and gas” and would “wreck” oil production. French’s democratic opponent is Jon Rosenthal. Rosenthal is a petroleum engineer with 25 years. experience in the industry.
Here are excerpts from Bo French’s platform:
- He has called Native Americans “third world savages” and said they should be deported. He believes that the U.S. should “round up every muslim and send them home.” He supports banning any ownership of Texas property by people from Muslim countries, and vows to fight a “Chinese Communist Party takeover” of the Texas oil and gas industry.
- His website says “He is a proven conservative fighter who has stood up to the Chinese Communist Party and radical Islam, as well as the radical Left and Never Trump factions, having refused to back down to attacks from all sides.”
- French told attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas in March that the state should ban Islam because “it’s not a religion, it’s a governmental structure intent on overthrowing our constitution.”
- After a social media post last year where French asked his followers if Jews or Muslims were a bigger threat to America, Republican leaders like Lt. Gov. Patrick called for his resignation as the Tarrant County GOP chair.
As practitioners in the industry it is our obligation to educate voters about the Commission and this race. Tell your Republican friends: do not vote for Bo French.
